Smith Rock & Crooked River Ranch Wedding:

Veronica & Seth

May 2026

Quick Takeaway for Couples Planning a Smith Rock or Crooked River Ranch Wedding

If you’re planning a multi location wedding day and incorporating Smith Rock, transportation can make the day feel much smoother for guests. Crooked River Ranch Cabins was a great option for keeping lodging and reception all in one place while being only about a 20 minute drive from the Smith Rock Amphitheater. Having vendors familiar with Central Oregon made the entire day flow seamlessly.

Crooked River Cabins = Rooms and cabins for everyone, 20 minutes to Smith Rock, views of the basalt cliffs and golf course, large lawn area for games, gazebo, amazing sunsets!

Bend Party Rentals = Tent, tables, chairs, dance floors, and barrels.

A tent was a game changer with the cathedral window sidewalls and barrels. They also provided the tables, chairs, and more to help customize the reception.

Bleu Bite Catering = made food and drinks easy with a large menu selection, including vegetarian options, plus a full service bar. The catering staff was top notch along with the banquet.

Sunset Sound Events = Run by DJ Chris, one of our favorite DJs, and someone we’ve worked alongside for years. He always keeps the dance floor moving while making the flow of the evening feel effortless.

Back Country Comfort Trailers = Perfect for the wedding. They kept guests comfortable, elevated the overall experience, and were especially helpful for an outdoor Central Oregon celebration where extra amenities were limited.

The entire day came together beautifully thanks to an incredible vendor team:

Charter Transportation: First Student Charter Bus

Catering: Bleu Bite Catering

Rentals: Bend Party Rentals

DJ & Entertainment: Sunset Sound Events

Officiant: Marv Ellen Decklemann

Cake: Helen Barnhard Bakery

The Ultimate Guide to Eloping at Samuel H. Boardman Scenic Corridor

Why Samuel H. Boardman Is One of My Favorite Places to Elope

If you've followed my work for any amount of time, you already know that the Southern Oregon Coast has my heart. Samuel H. Boardman Scenic Corridor is one of the most breathtaking places in Oregon and one of my favorite locations for adventurous, intimate elopements.

Stretching for 12 miles between Brookings and Gold Beach, this incredible section of coastline is filled with dramatic sea cliffs, hidden beaches, old growth forests, natural rock formations, and endless ocean views. Around every corner is another incredible viewpoint, making it one of those places that never gets old no matter how many times I visit.

Whether you're dreaming of exchanging vows overlooking the ocean, hiking to a secluded beach, or ending your day watching the sunset over the Pacific, Samuel H. Boardman offers an unforgettable setting that feels wild, peaceful, and incredibly romantic.

One of the best parts is that it still feels much quieter than many of Oregon's more popular destinations. You can experience the beauty of the Oregon Coast without feeling surrounded by crowds.

Why Couples Love Eloping Here

Samuel H. Boardman is perfect for couples who want their wedding day to feel like an adventure rather than a traditional event.

You can spend your day exploring hidden beaches, wandering through coastal forests, hiking scenic trails, watching waves crash against sea stacks, or even adding a trip to the Redwoods. Every stop offers a completely different landscape, which means your gallery will have an incredible variety of scenery without spending hours driving.

If you're looking for an experience that feels relaxed, adventurous, and centered around the two of you, this is one of the best places in Oregon to do it.

The Best Places to Elope at Samuel H. Boardman

Secret Beach

Secret Beach is one of the area's most iconic locations. A short but steep trail leads down to a beautiful stretch of sand surrounded by towering cliffs and sea stacks. During low tide, you can explore tide pools and enjoy one of the most scenic beaches on the Oregon Coast.

It has become more popular over the years, but with the right timing it can still feel peaceful and intimate.

Harris Beach State Park

If accessibility is important, Harris Beach State Park is an excellent option. The park offers easy beach access, restrooms, picnic areas, and plenty of parking, making it a great choice for couples bringing guests or family members with limited mobility.

The ocean views are spectacular, especially at sunset.

Natural Bridges

Natural Bridges is one of the most photographed viewpoints along the Oregon Coast. The rock formations are absolutely stunning and provide incredible views over the Pacific.

Keep in mind that access to the lower trails has changed over the years because of erosion and safety concerns, so it's always important to check current trail conditions before planning your day.

My Favorite Hidden Locations

The places everyone sees on Instagram are beautiful, but they're only a small part of what Samuel H. Boardman has to offer.

Some of my favorite ceremony locations aren't listed on maps or travel blogs. They're quiet overlooks, hidden beaches, forest trails, and scenic viewpoints that most visitors drive right past.

I've spent countless hours exploring this coastline, learning how the light changes throughout the seasons, which trails are worth the hike, and where to find those peaceful locations away from the crowds.

When couples work with me, I help them choose locations based on privacy, accessibility, tide schedules, lighting, and the overall experience they're hoping to create.

Adding the Redwoods to Your Elopement

One of my favorite things about this area is that you're only about 40 minutes from the Redwoods.

It's completely possible to start your day among some of the tallest trees in the world before heading back to the coast for sunset portraits overlooking the ocean. The combination of towering forests and dramatic coastline makes for one of the most unique elopement experiences in the Pacific Northwest.

If you're planning to have your ceremony inside California's Redwood parks, you'll likely need a special use permit depending on the location. I'll help you navigate the process and recommend areas that work best for both photography and accessibility.

And one local tip you'll thank me for later: bring bug spray if you're heading into the Redwoods.

Small Wedding Venues Nearby

Capella by the Sea

Located in Brookings, Capella by the Sea is a charming little chapel surrounded by Azalea Park. It's perfect for intimate weddings with a small guest list and is only minutes from some of the area's best portrait locations.

Crook Point

Crook Point is one of the premier wedding venues on the Southern Oregon Coast. With multiple ceremony locations overlooking the ocean, vacation rentals, and elopement packages, it's an incredible option for couples wanting a private coastal venue with breathtaking views.

Adventure Ideas for Your Elopement Weekend

One of the reasons I love photographing elopements here is that your wedding can be more than just a ceremony.

You can turn it into an unforgettable weekend filled with adventure.

Some of my favorite activities include:

* Hiking along the coastline

* Exploring tide pools

* Watching for whales and sea lions

* Ocean kayaking

* Deep sea fishing

* Rogue River rafting

* Visiting the Redwoods

* Scenic drives along Highway 101

* Watching sunset from the cliffs

* Campfires on the beach where permitted

Whether you're looking for a relaxing getaway or an adventurous experience, there's no shortage of things to do.

Where to Stay

Brookings and Gold Beach both offer excellent places to stay, from oceanfront hotels to cozy vacation rentals.

If you're looking for something special, I always recommend searching for vacation homes with ocean views, hot tubs, fire pits, or private decks where you can relax after your wedding day.

Many couples choose to spend several days exploring the coast instead of rushing home, and I highly recommend it.

Tips for Planning Your Elopement

The Oregon Coast is beautiful year round, but weather can change quickly.

Always dress in layers, wear comfortable shoes, and be prepared for wind even during the summer months.

Tide schedules are incredibly important, especially if you're planning to visit beaches like Secret Beach or other coastal locations. I help every couple plan around the tides and sunset so we're in the right place at the right time.

I also scout locations, help create your timeline, recommend trusted local vendors, and make sure your day flows naturally so you can simply enjoy the experience.

Why I Love Photographing Elopements Here

Samuel H. Boardman never feels the same twice. Every visit brings different weather, different light, different tides, and a completely different experience.

That's exactly why I love it.

Whether you're dreaming of a quiet ceremony overlooking the cliffs, exploring hidden beaches together, or ending your day beneath an incredible coastal sunset, this stretch of Oregon coastline offers an experience you'll never forget.

If you're planning a Samuel H. Boardman elopement, I'd love to help you create a day that feels true to you and show you some of my favorite places along the way.

The Ultimate Guide to Eloping at God's Thumb in Lincoln City

If you're looking for one of the most breathtaking views on the Oregon Coast, it's hard to beat God's Thumb.

Perched high above the Pacific just north of Lincoln City, this incredible overlook feels like you're standing on the edge of the world. With sweeping ocean views, dramatic cliffs, wildflowers in the spring, and unforgettable sunsets, it's one of my favorite places for adventurous couples who don't mind earning their view.

This isn't your typical beach elopement. It's for couples who love hiking together, chasing epic scenery, and creating a wedding day that feels like an adventure from beginning to end.

Why I Love God's Thumb

God's Thumb is one of those places that instantly makes you stop and take it all in.

The hike winds through coastal forest before opening into grassy meadows with incredible views of Lincoln City and the Pacific. As you continue, the trail leads to the famous basalt outcropping that gives God's Thumb its name.

Standing at the top feels surreal. On a clear day, you can see miles of coastline stretching in both directions while waves crash hundreds of feet below.

It's adventurous, peaceful, and absolutely unforgettable.

Is God's Thumb Right for Your Elopement?

God's Thumb is best for couples who love being outdoors and don't mind hiking.

The trail isn't extremely long, but it does include steady elevation gain and a steep final climb. The last section is rugged, unofficial, and requires careful footing, especially after rain. It's important to wear proper hiking shoes and only attempt the final climb if you're comfortable with uneven terrain.

If you're looking for an easy walk with guests, this probably isn't the right ceremony location.

If you're dreaming about a quiet adventure together with some of the best views on the Oregon Coast, you'll absolutely fall in love with it.

What Makes It So Special

One of my favorite things about God's Thumb is how much variety you get during the hike.

You walk through mossy forest, climb into open meadows, overlook endless coastline, and finish on a dramatic cliff high above the ocean.

It feels like several different locations all rolled into one.

Because of that, your gallery tells the full story of your day instead of looking like it all happened in one spot.

The Best Time to Elope

Late spring through early fall usually offers the best hiking conditions.

Spring brings lush green hillsides and wildflowers.

Summer often brings warm evenings and incredible sunsets.

Fall offers beautiful colors, fewer visitors, and some of my favorite lighting of the year.

Fog is always possible on the Oregon Coast, but honestly, I love it. It adds so much mood and atmosphere to your photos and makes the entire experience feel even more magical.

A Few Things to Know

God's Thumb has become much more popular over the last several years, so I always recommend weekday elopements or sunrise adventures if you're hoping for the most privacy.

The official access is via The Knoll trail system. Older routes that crossed private property are no longer allowed, and it's important to stay on designated access routes to help protect the area and respect nearby landowners.

Because the final section is steep and exposed, safety always comes first. We never rush, and if conditions aren't ideal, there are several nearby viewpoints that are just as stunning without requiring the final scramble. Recent rescue incidents are a good reminder that this is a true hiking destination, not simply a roadside overlook.

Pair It With Other Oregon Coast Locations

One of my favorite things about God's Thumb is how close it is to so many incredible places.

After your ceremony, we can head down to the beach for sunset portraits, explore hidden coves, stop at scenic overlooks along Highway 101, or even spend another day exploring nearby coastal towns.

If you're planning a weekend elopement, it's easy to build an experience that includes forests, beaches, cliffs, and ocean sunsets all in one trip.

What to Bring

Wear comfortable hiking shoes, dress in layers, and don't forget water.

The Oregon Coast weather changes quickly, and even warm summer evenings can be windy at the top.

I always help my couples plan around weather, trail conditions, and sunset so your day feels relaxed instead of rushed.

Why I Keep Coming Back

I've photographed all over Oregon, but God's Thumb is one of those places that never loses its magic.

Every hike feels different.

Some days the ocean is crystal clear. Other days the cliffs disappear into the fog. Sometimes you get a fiery sunset, and sometimes dramatic storm clouds roll across the horizon.

No matter what, it's always beautiful.

If you're dreaming of an adventurous Oregon Coast elopement with incredible views and a little bit of hiking, God's Thumb is one of the most unforgettable places you can say, "I do."
